We collect as little as possible. Here is exactly what.

The short version

• Louvri Bouch has no accounts, no sign-up, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. We do not know who you are.
• Everything you do in the app — your streak, saved phrases, review schedule, passport choice and the documents you keep in "My documents" — is stored only on your phone. We never see it. You can export a backup code yourself, and it goes wherever you put it, not to us.
• A few features need the internet and send only what you give them, only when you use them: a sentence you ask to be machine-translated, a photo you take with the camera translator, the audio you record in Listen mode, and a request for today's exchange rates. Nothing is sent otherwise.
• The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Donations happen on PayPal's site under PayPal's privacy policy.

What stays on your phone

Your language choices, lessons completed, streak, favourites, quiz progress, chosen passport, reminder setting and anything you type into "My documents" are kept in the app's private storage on your device. "My documents" is additionally encrypted with the phone's secure storage where the phone supports it. Deleting the app deletes all of it. We have no server that holds a copy.

What leaves your phone, and only when you ask

• Machine translation. When no verified phrase covers what you typed, the app can send that text to Google Cloud Translation and show the result, clearly labelled "machine translation — unverified". Only the text you typed is sent.
• Camera translation. When you point the camera at a menu or sign and press the button, that one photo is sent to Google Cloud Vision to read the text. It is not stored by us.
• Listen mode and speech checks. When you press record, the audio you record is sent to Google Cloud Speech to be turned into text. Pronunciation checks on newer phones use the phone's own on-device speech recognition and send nothing.
• Exchange rates. The Travel Kit fetches a public currency table from open.er-api.com. The request contains no personal data, and the table is cached on your phone so the converter works offline.
• Reports. "Suggest a correction" opens your own email app with a draft addressed to us. Nothing is sent unless you send it.

Google processes those requests under Google Cloud's privacy notice. Bottles 4 Life does not receive, log or keep the text, photos or audio.

Permissions

The app asks for the camera (to read signs), the microphone (to hear you), speech recognition (to check pronunciation), notifications (for the optional daily reminder, which stays off unless you turn it on) and, on request, your approximate location (used on the phone only, to show local prayer and daylight times). Each is optional; the app works without them.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Payments

There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. Nothing in the app can charge you. Gifts to Bottles 4 Life are made on our website through PayPal.

The website

bottles4life.org is a static site served by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics or advertising scripts. Cloudflare may log requests (such as your IP address) to serve and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. When you give, you are taken to paypal.com; PayPal handles your payment details and shares with us only your name, email and the amount so we can thank you and issue a receipt. If you email us, we keep your email so we can reply.

Your rights

Because we hold almost nothing, exercising your rights is simple: write to info@bottles4life.org and we will tell you what we have (usually only the emails you sent us and any donation receipts) and delete it on request. Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and California have the rights their laws provide, and we honour them for everyone. We do not sell personal information and never have.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. We will never quietly start collecting more.
